Constitutionalism in Ukraine: The way forward – a presentation of Prof. David Williams’ lecture

Prof. David Williams, head of the Indiana University Center for Constitutional Democracy, has kindly given us his consent to publishing a presentation of the lecture he prepared specially for his visit to Ukraine. In the lecture, the American professor answers fundamental questions of the constitutionalism development in Ukraine:

  • Why do constitutions and constitutionalism matter?
  • Why, if Ukraine has succeeded in becoming an electoral democracy, has it not succeeded in becoming a constitutional democracy?
  • And what is the way forward?

The presentation and its translation into Ukrainian can be viewed on our site or downloaded in their original Microsoft PowerPoint format (see below).

Prof. Williams is visiting Ukraine at the invitation of the Center for Constitutional Design. According to CCD Chairman of the Board Gennadiy Druzenko, David is “one of the top constitutionalists of world reputation.”
